Calicoes Top i : Of Button ClubMaine Group Meets At WestbrookWmtbraoh, April 11. — TheMaine State luttoniCIub met Saturday at the Dnivcrsalist Cfhurch, Westbrook, following a recess of -reral months.Plans were made to send exhibits .to the .Just Button Fair at Hartford, Conn., April 29-30, and several members announced intention of attending the fair, including Mr. and Mrs. Llhwood Carr and Mrs. Winnie Thomas, members of the B-H-B Club.The topic of the Saturday meeting was Calicoes, in charge of Pliny Crockett of Hollis Center, who gave several highlights on the history of calico buttons. He has 600 in his collection.Mrs. Ruth Snell, program chairman. gave a brief history of calico cloth, which was first Imported :nto England In 1704 from Cal-Uta and then brought to Ameri-rOther Interesting exhibits were ,wo calico quilts, both more than 100 years old. qnb exhibited by Mrs. Snell with calico buttons mounted to match each of the pieces in the quilt, and one exhibited by .the president, Mrs, Maybelle Johnson, and made by her grandmother.The program and future meeting places were outlined as folr lows: May.
