INKABOUTGREASEPAINTThat Frenchman AgainJust as “Reunion in Vienna” shows Alfred Lunt up to his most Luntish tricks, so “One Hour With You,” shows Maurice Chevalier being his most Chevalient.Paramount expected to accommo' date large crowds at the film’s Broad' way showing, so they opened it in two Publix houses at the same time. They are justified. One may look in at either of the theatres at the oddest hours and find it quite crowded: half' past eleven on Monday morning, for instance. This musical film boasts an excel' lent cast. Besides the Frenchman, there is the lovely Jeanette McDonald as his wife, petite Genevieve Tobin as his wife’s best friend, Roland Young as Mitsi’s (Miss Tobin’s) husband, and Charlie Ruggles as a friend of the family. Chevalier, as a young and at' tractive doctor, is pursued by Mitzi, and though he loves his wife, he is hardly able to resist Mitzi. His affair gives Mitzi’s husband divorce evidence and nearly breaks up his own home.Meanwhile Adolph (Charlie Ruggles)makes love to the doctor’s wife, and she uses this evil deed to fling in her husband’s face when he confesses his own indiscretion.Maurice bursts into what passes for music three or four times during the picture, and keeps a stiff lower lip throughout. If you like him at all you will enjoy his performance in this one. I think that Jeanette Me' Donald is quite the loveliest lady on the screen. Besides her dainty fern' ininity she has a sweet singing and speaking voice—and she can really act.Genevieve Tobin, who has been on the stage since babyhood, is an un-questionably good actress. In this film she is her most fetching.“The Crowd Roars”The new James Cagney starring vehicle is one that ought to be seen while it is at the Warner Brothers Winter Garden Theatre (on Broad' way at 50th Street). The film is all about auto racingByAlice Alworthflan d the big scenes—there are severalof them—are shown on the super'screen of the theatre. This arrange-ment heightens the excitement of the races by showing much more area. The story is not much above the aver-age, but the cast (especially Joan Blondell) is competent.IIICdJFJ
