Latin AmericanTheme FollowedFor Nevin ClubBright Mexican pottery, dolls, fans and fruit fashioned the attractive table decor for the Nevin} Club's Pan-American luncheon pro~t gram at Kinsloe House Saturday. Travel posters. Mexican hats, intricately carved chests and hand-woven baskets were arranged at vantage points about the Kate White Auditorium, while flags of the Americas dominated the entire setting and gave effecive accent t0 the club's annual salute to “goodnelghborHness. Sparkling musical numbers, appropriate readings and a lively resume of an Imaginary airplane trip to points of interest jn the Republics gave further emphasis to the observance of Pan-American Day.After the meeting was called to order by the presidnt. Mrs. Georg® Daniels and the invocation in Spanish had been offered by Mrs. Earl Boyd. Mrs. John Remonte was introduced as commenator for theoccasion.April 14 th is Pan-AmericanDay. but today, April 9th, Is Pan-American Day in the Nevin Club/ Mrs. Remonte stated In her opening remarks. IContinuing she declared that the legal charter of the Pan-American Union was the re»ult ©f fifty-eight years of combined experience of‘the 21 Republics mak-inc up the Union. In the Union,} one I* continuously greeted with the word ‘'together*' in English, Spanish. Portuguese or French, she said. 2*15.000,000 persons are Involved. One of the purpose* in mind is to achieve an order of peace and justice, and another Is to promote, by co-operative action, the economic, social and cultural development of these 21 Republics, the speaker revealed.She spoke of the Pan-American Association of Composers that was organized In 1928, the purpose ofwhich is to promote the performances of works of North, South and Central American composers in the different countries of the two continents. In addition to concerts in the cities of the United States, and Latin America, the organization has promoted concerts of Pan-American music In Europe, she pointed out.The commentator mentionedMme, Irma Labastille of Montclair, N. J-, authority on Latin-American music and Inter-American relations who said at the recent Biennial meeting in Dallas that “only a bond of music can make the Americas one continentafter which she urgod women ofthe United States to become familiar with the music of Latin-Americans.Imaginary TripIn her remarks concerning the imaginary trip to Pan-American countries by air, Mrs. Remonte stated that the Braniff International Airways are now advertising vacation trips to Havana and points South, adding that the Nevin Air-Hnes can do as well. Come with us on a Hop, Skip and Jump Tour of Cuba, Brazil and Mexico. Our plane, the Good Neighbor, now takes off from Kinsloe Field with Mrs, George Daniels as pilot, Mrs. Lynne Wortham as navigator And the commenator as guide.” The first stop on the 6700 mile hop to Brazil was Havana, Cuba, which was decorated for carnival time.
