[For tbe Register.]v % 4Messrs. Editors:We left oar home in the “ Old Burg,’’ on the 27th inst. to take a little “ flirt ” over in East Rockingham. As we rode slowly along, remarking the changes wrought since liisfc we passed over the familiar old road, listening to the merry songs of of the early spring birds, our spirits seemed to rise and become buoyant with invigorating, mellowing influence of the soft, balmy breeze blowing from the South, and we felt like a bird just out of a cage.At length we reached Inglewood where we calculated to stay a spell. Inglewood is a pleasant villa about three miles from the Shenandoah, where Mos3rs. J. II. C. N. Shepp are doing a thriving business in the mercantile line. While at Inglewood it was our pleasure to witness the closing exercises of Prof. G. W. Slusser’a school, which took place on the 28th inst. Arriving at the school house at an early hour we found the people already gathering in from the four corners of tho earth, anxiously awaiting the treat in store for them; The walls of the schoolroom were handsomely decorated with maps, wreaths, and specimens of penmanship, in which art Mr. Slusser is without a peer in the county, especially iti ornamental and artistic writing and pen-drawing.The neatly arranged stage hung with rich festooaery, was embellished and adorn ed in a manner that speaks well for the fair representatives of the school and vicinity.At about seven o’clock the curtain was drawn, and the exercises consisting of dec lamatious, dialogues, songs, tableaux, c., interspersed with instrumental music, commenced. All of which were rendered highly commendable to those who participated in them. We refrain giving names where all did well as it would be bad taste; but speak especially for the pupils of the school, who performed their respective parts iu a manner which showed that no pains had been spared in their training.
