$25 million movie about Okanagan Lake legend to be filmed in WhiteshellBY AMANDA BOSMA_^fell, it’s official.Ogopogo -the dinosaurlike creature said to inhabit the Okanagan Lake in south-central BritishColumbia- will soon be moving to Manitoba waters.The creature -that will spend most of its time in the Whiteshell and swimming Lake Winnipeg- will arrive sometime near the beginning of August when a camera crew begins shooting Ogopogo -the movie.And it might even be coming to Lake Lac du Bonnet.They haven't decided on anything yet for sure, but they were very excited about this location, said TerryFisher of the Winnipeg River BrokenheadCommunity FuturesDevelopment Corporation.Two weeks ago, Fisher spent over three and half hours showing a group of movie-people -including the producer, director, location scout, writer, and technical expert— around the Lac du Bonnet area.The movie-people were looking for a rugged, fairly-unpopulated location with a rocky shoreline and deep water in which the monster could swim and Lac du Bonnet fits this description to a tee.I can't be too specific about the area they're looking at right now because I don'twant to blow this. 1 would love to see this happen.”If the movie-people decide to shoot here, they still have to get permission from the residents in the area, explained. Fisher.Budgeted at $25 million, Ogopogo will be the largest budgeted film ever shot in Manitoba. The last film shot here -Kiefer Sutherland's 1998 production Woman Wanted-was budgeted atonly $7.5 million.The movie will be the first production for the three-month old local company Original Pictures, but will be overseen by Kim Todd, formerly an executive producer at Credo Entertainment.Though no stars have yet been signed for the movie, John Henderson, who made the similar-theme 1996 Loch Ness, will direct the film.Meanwhile, Ogopogo is already under construction atthe Jim Henson Creature Shops in England. The special effects shop will build both the physical creature and the computer-generated one.The total special effects budget will top $3 million.Another $3 million will go towards the three primary stars of the film since casting is now the first priority of the production.So far all that's been revealed about the stare is that they’ll include an 11-year-old boy and his father.B
