Disc Jockey Fired For Playing SongRoswell, Mass. (CPS)—Student disc jockey Jack Leslie has been suspended from WLTI-FM at Lowell Technological Institute by faculty advisor Martin Patt for airing “Hand of Doom/' by Black Sabbath.Patt, a communications professor at L.T.L, justified the suspension by referring to the March 5 Federal Communications Commission ruling notifying the nation’s broadcasters that it is their responsibility to keep songs promoting or glorifying the use of drugs off the air,The Black Sabbath song chronicles a heroin addict’s decline and impending death after being disillusioned by war. The lyrics are “First it was the bomb -Vietnam, napalm-Disillusioning-You push theneedle in-From that you escape.11The song ends: “It's too late to turn-You don’t want to learn-Price of life you hide-Now you're gonna die.'1
