At Pembroke IPEMBROKE - An I discussion of Latin-Am eric an IMusic will be presented at I Pembroke State University by Ithe N.C. Southeastern I Consortium for International IEducation World Studies ITuesday and Wednesday, April I13-14. leading it will be Dr. IJames McCoy, authority on IIatin-American Music who is Idean of graduate studies at I Inter-American University in I San Jan, Puerto Rico. IOn both April 13-14, Dr. I McCoy will discuss at 2 p.m. in I PSU’s Moore Hall Auditorium | the derivation of Latin Rhythmand melodies from their early beginnings in African rhythms Iand Indian melodies to their modern usage. IOn April 13 at 8 p.m. in the I PSU Performing Arts Center, 10 I students from the Inter- I American University will assist I Dr. McCoy in performing I,atln- I American music ranging from I the primitive to the modern. IBoth the lectures and concert Iare free, and the public is Iinvited. IDr. McCoy earned his B.M. at Ithe University of Nebraska, his M.M. from Indiana University and his Ph.D. from Florida State University. His doctoraldissertation dealt with thetracing of rhythmic patterns from the Gold Coast of Africa to 1 .atin America.Dr. John Chay is program chairman of the N.C.Southeastern Consortium for International Education World Studies. Dr Daniel E. Todd, Jr., dean of academic affairs for programs and research at PSU, is grant administrator.
