April 5.—[Special.]—Farm-i ers have finished planting corn and are preparing ground for cotton.We are still booming and building.The recent iron development near the city has created quite an advance in real estate.Miss Ida Vaughn, who lives near the city, is the guest of Miss Mary Dent, on East Side.Miss Maud Holstein is on the sick list this week. I hope she will be able to resume her studies in a few days.The mineral deposits near the city are demanding and receiving attention from speculators in different parts of Georgia and Alabama, and I think the day is not far distant when Waverly will be num-j bered with the important mining towns in i Alabama. “ 80 mote it be.”Your quill driver returned this morning from a visit to Opelika. While there he had a very pleasant time, as will be seen elsewhere in the Enquirer-Sun today. Opelika will be a hummer when she gets her electric lights, dummy line and ice factory. “Let ’er go, Gallagher.”Mr. John J. B. Allen will build a handsome residence on the corner of Main street anil Cleveland avenue this summer.Rev. S. P. West, who was in the city Thursday and Friday, in the interest of the Orphan’s Home, at Sommerville, met with financial success.The following is the roll of honor at the Waverly High School, for the month ending March *28, 1890, W. E. Clemmons, principal: First grade—Lois Bruce,Eugene Burke, Reese Ilolstun and Mary Iiobinson. Second grade—Lola May Bruce, Thayler Gross, Carrie Allen and Emma Lizzie Greene. Third grade—Eugenia Mayberry, Hawkie Moorman, Charlie Joe Burke and Kathleen Willis. Fourth grade—Bessie Ilolstun. Lula Lee Minter and Gus Moorman. Deportment—Henry Mayberry, 1’eese IIol-stun, Eugene Burke and Oda Bell Allen.
