The verdict was reached after eleven hours by the jury, during which, it 3e said, sixteen ballots were taken.Havens was sentenced to four months’ imprisonment in the county jail of Emmet county by Judge Nela J. Leo'at four o'clock Friday afternoon. *T want him where 1 can watch him a Lid not have him run around loose in the yard.” said the judge. He was taken up Friday morning.Conviction of Havens, after two previous juries had found defendants in similar cases not guilty, will have a decided moral effect upon the stopping of illicit liquor traffic In Clay county, according to the officers. Conclusive evidence In such cases, they say, is hard to obtain and to establish their guilt beyond all reasonable doubt to a moral certainty” is a difficult task with the human element of juries taken into consideration.
