es, Sunday, April 4r 198?OAKLAND - Fifteen students from Southern High School competed in the Ninth Annual Maryland Skills Olympics, heid at Howard County’s Vocational-Technical CenterThe contest is one measurement of determining how well students in vocational educational classes “measure up” in various skills areas at business, industrial and professional levels.Five students returned with medals and a trophy. Dennis Evans took first place and a gold medal in carpentry; James Walkling placed second in electrical trades and earned a silver medal. Kenny Rexroad was second in cabinet making with a silver medal; James Neary and James Walkling received trophies for third place in safety All are students in John Fitzwater s building trades class.Other students representing Southern in thehighly competitive event, sponsored by the Vocational Industrial Clubs of America, were Terry Harvey, Roger Kisner, Larrv James, Tim Carr.
