During his life he made some twelve hundred drawings of freakish costumes. All them were drawn at night, after his labors of the day. lie invented a shoe with spring heels that helped the wearer tlt;» raise his feet when he walked. lie also invented stockings with paddedeal\es, for the use of poorly formed men at court functions, and shirts with immense frilled bosoms. When he could not get anybody to wearthem, he hired a number of men to don the grotesque attire and to promenade the streets for his pleasure.
