LYDIA HUMPHREY VISITS HERE AFTER 46 YEARS^ tut *W‘ :: 'een j Mrs. Lydia Humphrey, wh#had been visiting in and near Flora with relatives since Monday, left Thursday for her hom«iavedistars.sae-oreornastrenind^ve at Dunlap, Kansas, On Wed-90- nesday she was the guest of her fen- cousin, Mrs. John Orerholser, as- East Columbia street and in her ■ by honor Mrs. Overholser entertain-in ed the following at a big dinner: [ as j Mr, and Mrs. John F. Flora, Mr.Ap-jand Mrs. D. J. McCain, Mr. and hey Mrs. Oscar Landes, Mrs. Dora to Musselman, Mrs. Nellie McCIos-, of|key and daughter, Virginia; Mr. and Mrs. Silas Brubaker, of Flora and vicinity; Mrs. Nete Sharp and son Dale, of northwest of town and Mr. and Mrs. Ed Miller, of Pyrmont. Mrs. Humphrey was at one time a na- resident of this vicinity, her par-od- ents being Mr. and Mrs. Isaae ear Betts, who almost a half cen-iira tury ago owned and lived on th* are farm now owaed by Mart Cling-;at- enpeel, near Walnut Stump. .Her visit here this week was the first since she left here 46 years agowith her father and mother andsix brothers and sisters for Kam-sas, the trip being made in a covered wagon and being over tbs old corduroy roads that wendedtheir way through dense forests.At that time she was 15 year* of age. While here she was taken to the old homestead and als# to the Moss cemetery, where her jnother and one sister have for several years been buried. Her father is still living at the age of 88 years, his home being at Russell, Kansasr Besides Mrs. Overholser other cousins living in this city are Mrs. I. J. Brim, Mrs. Margaret Musselman and Mrs. Martha Hadley. Mrs. Humphrey marveled at the growth of Flora,which at the time of her going to Kansas, was only about sevem years old and contained but a few stores and homes. She enjoyed her visit here to the fullest.
