He will not be the wonder of circus goers this season, for after a fair and impartial trial he was found guilty of incorrigibility, sentenced and shot, at the winter quarters of the Hagenback-Wallace circus here.! Big Ben was declared the largest elephant %'ver brought to America. He was born in Africa and was captured by huntsmen at the age of 11 years. He traveled with the circus , for four years and although he was provided with a special car and was given special attention he refused to “work.” After all the experienced trainers were given an opportunity to train Big Ben it was declared impos-jsible. He was .given a last chance ithis week but broke his chains and ! defied his keepers.| No man could approach Big Ben with safety and he seemed to love ° .only one member of the circus organ-1 1 ization, a baby elephant, four months l' old and three feet tall.
