ROXBURY.A few months ago our towns }cople was shocked at the death of a beautiful and accomplished young lady, Amy Morehouse, of Washington. On the 13th ult. Sylvia, oldest daughter of George and Sylvia Mortis, was called away by sudden death. She was a beautiful young lady, 14 years of age* loved and respected by all that was acquainted with her, always good-natured and kind to every one wherever she was. She was not a resident of this town but of Bridge water. She was a member of the Sunday School in the Episcopal Church. Just before she passed away from this world into that brighter one, she sang a beautiful song which she had been accustomed to singing: “•Mother, I'm only goinghome.” Her funeral waa well attended on the loth ult. in Christ’s Church by a large concourse of friends and ac-quaintences. The Rev. Mr. Davis, of Ansoma, officiated and delivered an excellent sermon, after which the choir sang (by request) the song she sang upon her dying bed:In the greenwood sweetly sleeping, Where the willow branches wave, Lies our darling, darling sister,In the dark and silent grave,There she’s resting in the silent grave. There she lies and knows no sorrow,In that ailent lonely spot—While around her grave are blooming, Roses and Forget-me-not.On Sunday evening, the 22nd inst., Mr. Hiram Curtis passed away from this world of trouble and of sin. He was a man forty-eight years of age—lost his wife by sudden death last summer, and has been living alone ever since. By the kindness of the neighbors and a few friends he was well cared for while sick. The greatest possibility was taking for him to keep him up and keep him alive; but of no avail—Death had its fangs set upon him, and he passed into that peaceful and quiet abode. He was a member of the Methodist Church m this place for many years, and always attended church when it was a possible thing for him to attend. He was a true Christian and lived up to what he professed.Commodore.
