Wagner, executive secretary of the U.S. Bishop’s Committee for the Spanish Speaking, under whoso supervision the program was carried out.Solis served as coordinator for the project, which previously had offices at 430 S. San Augustine and moved recently to the Bishop's Commlllea at 5511 San Pedro Ave.The research project was made possible by a grant made three years ago by tHo Merrill Trust Fund of Boston, Mass., to develop Job opportunities for migrants of Mexican ancestry whose family, especially school-age children, suffered serious drawbacks In their studies.Projects of a similar nature were carried out in other parts of the West and MJdwe9t under die auspices of the National Catholic Rural life Conference, Bishop's Committee for Migrant Workers and Bishop’s Committee for the Spanish Speaking.Another group, the National Council for the Spanish Speaking, of which Mrs. Eitcamadon P. Armas is national coordinator, has also been working toward rehabilitation of families which are In need of help.The threc-ycar program which will bo terminated at the end of September Included vocational draining programs, welfare assistance, |ob placement In cooperation wllh the Texas‘Employment Commission and citizenshipclasses.The • three-year program was known as the “Action for Com-• numity Development, Inc.,*’ an ;organization of San Antonians who cooperated with the Bishop's Committee In the pilot project.
