Bill Wemble drove the same car in the state fair race last year and piled up in a crash into the fence.Nye, who said: This was one of the good ones1*’ when askedif it was the most important race he had won, said that the track was dusty and bumpy whieh cut down the speed. The winning time was 18:59, far above K o t a r y's record of 17:30.2, set in 1963.Nye, who is married and has three children, accepted a kiss from the State Fair queen, Jean ne Shutts, and got the big Jack ReveHe trophy. Larry looked hishappiest, however, when his wife, Loretta, gave him a big kiss and hug.No Scriotis Injuries The program took four hours with three of the five races being interrupted by accidents but no serious injuries were reported. The avid racing fans sat in the unroofed grandstand (a very unsuitable structure for the richest state in the union) and endured the heat in the sunny early stages; splashes ofrain midway through it; andheavy dust all the way.The first heat began at 1 p.m. and lasted one lap. It was stopped when Steve White, of Solvay, hit the fence half-way around and the fence stake went right through the block of his motor though White escapedinjury.The heat was started again at 2:15 when siormdouds were overhead and it looked like rain. Race director Ira Vailwas sweating it out,'having been prepared to make refunds if he couldn *t get at least threej of the five races completed.Six Cars In Ft I cop On the ninth lap, two ears careened wildly on the fourth turn and the dustcloud was so heavy that the following cars couldn't see the disabled ones.There were six cars in the battered plleup. The front wheels were ripped off the car of George Ely of Lockport and the machines driven by Ron Stanton, of Jamesville; Lester Buck of Waterloo; and Dave Compton of Canandaigua were damaged.
