.. More than 300 couples married by the Rev. Oscar H. Stevens, Crown point’s “marrin’ parson/’ and socialist candidate for congress, must wait until ne^; Friday to learn whether they are legally united. In a suit instituted today in Gary, Superior court No. 4, in which the Rev. Stevens seeks to force County Clerk George W. Sweigart to record niatriages performed by him, Judge Claude . V. Ridgely deferred judgment because County Attorney George Hershman was unable to be present at the hearing.Hershman had instructed Sweigart not to record the marriages on the contention that the Rev. Stevens was not a duly authorizedminister. The Rev., Stevens through 4his attorney, Houis C. Holland, of Gary, alleged in court today that he is a minister of the gospel, that he has filed copies of his, license and or- I dinatioh papers, and that he has been a minister since 1918.
