DellingerFeb. 5,1911 - Oct. 14, 2006%PETOSKEY, Mich. — Former Elwood and Anderson resident Dilver A. “Red” Dellinger,95, Petoskey,Mich., died Oct. 14. 2006, at his residence after a brief illness.He was bom Feb. 5,1911, in Madison Township,Tipton County. He retired in 1972 from Del-co Remy Division of General Motors in Anderson after 44 years of employment. He began work for Delco for 27 cents anhour, and retired as a foremanof inspection.He was the oldest of eight children. He was known as “Red” throughout his school years and graduated from Elwood High School in 1929. Hewas a member of East MainStreet Christian Church in Elwood where he taught Sunday school for 18 years. He was a Scout Master for Troop 85 and was an Elder Emeritus of the church. He was later a member of the Central Christian Church in Anderson and the Petoskey Christian Church in Michigan.He was an Indiana High School Athletic Association official for 34 years, officiating in basketball, football and baseball. He also coached and officiated inLittle League and Babe Ruth leagues in Anderson. *He was a Free Mason and member of the Ovid Masonic Lodge 164 in Anderson. He moved from Madison County to retire to a home on LakeCharlevoix in Michigan.Survivors include his wife of 16 years, Mary (Broman) Dellinger of Petoskey, Mich., whom he married in 1990; son, Richard M. (wife, Janice) Dellinger of Noblesville; two daughters, Dora May (husband, Carl) Boris ofArkansas and Janet Louise (husband, Harry) Milakis of Glen Ellyn, I1L; four sisters, Dorothy (husband, Robert) Snyder of Elwood, Esther (husband,Walter) McDaniel of Fairfield, Calif., Irene (husband, Jack) Melling of Frankton and Dene (husband, Harvey) Warner of San Antonio, Texas; six grandchildren; 11 great-grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews.He was preceded in death by his parents, Alonzo and Beatrice (Hobbs) Dellinger, first wife whom he married on July 4,1932, and who died erf Alzheimer's disease in 1989, Ruth (Larimer) Dellinger; brother, Donald Dellinger, and two sisters, Delores Benedict and Doree Mitchell.Services will be conducted at 11am. Friday at Copher-Fesler-May Funeral Home, 415 S. Anderson St, Elwood, with the Rev. Roger Gardner of East Main Street Christian Church officiating. Burial will be in Elwood City Cemetery.A memorial service will be held at a later date at the Petoskey Christian Church in Petoskey, Mich.Visitation will be 4 to 8 p.m. Thursday at the funeral home.The Ovid Masonic Dxige will conduct a memorial service at 7 p.m. Thursday at the funeral home.Memorial contributions may be made to the East Main Street Christian Church in Elwood.Post online condolences at www.copherfeslermay.com or www.theheraldbulletin.com.
