Oct. 3 —Grace HillBrosseau, of Greenwich. former president of the National Daughters of the American Revolution and prominent In social circles In Connecticut and New York, was granted a divorce from Alfred Joseph Brosseau. a wealthy New York business man, on the ground of cruelty, by Judge Alfred C. Baldwin in superior court: here today. She was represented by former State’s Attorney Homer C. Cum- 1 mlngs. and although an uncontented case, the defendant was represented by Judge James F. Walsh.The climax to the married life of the couple, according to the testimony. came n* their home May 14 last. Mrs Brosseau was in her room dressing for a dinner party when her husband entered and demanded the key of the wine cellar. During his absence in Europe Rhc had the lock changed. Mrs. Brosseau refused to clve. up the key. Mr. Brosseau showed anger, loud words were spoken and suddenly Mr. Brosseau slapped her In the face and stamped out of the room.Mrs. Brosseau attended the fashionable dinner party, but marks on her face were distinctly clear and excited many questions, she said.Mrs. Brosseau and her three witnesses were outstanding in appearance and attire in the court room.The testimony of the plnlntiff was that she was married lo the defendant December 20. 1S39. The married life of the couple at Greenwich ran smoothly enough until two years ago. when Mrs Brosseau told Judge Baldwin his attitude toward her changed.“AH his affection for me ceased. she said dramatically.Mrs. Wilson Felder and Mrs. Mary Plunkett, both of Greenwich, testified that they wereM)resent at the dinner and knew of the husband striking Mrs. Brosseau. Mrs. Felder also wns a. witness to the assault.
