Mr. Ralllle was listened to with the keenest interest, and his remarks wire applauded heartily. He said:While I knew Major McKinley from the time of the New York Tribune jubilee celebration, ami hail met him at various times, my closest and most remarkable daily association with him lasted for about a year, before the first Republican convention, when t went to carry him the nevva he would he nominated on the first ballot, and afterward during the speechmaklnff time between hie nomination and his election when he conducted his celebrated front porch campaign. 1 acted as his personal representative at the convention and then remained with him until Inauguration, when I accompanied him to Washington a* one of hi* party of personal friends, and said good by to him in the White House.I have been asked very often why, after such a phenomenal feat as helping nominate, campaign and elect a president.
