While conducting research in the Illinois Room at Hayner Library, Meisenheimer one day mentioned his interest in putting together lists of area veterans, and the group has been working ever since.Over the last two years, they have gathered more than 5,000 names in 13 searchable books, with as much detailed informa* tion as they have been able to discover on each individual Bierman estimates that they have at least 3,000 more names to be indexed.When they first began the project, they primarily garnered names from newspaper obituaries and vital statistics records.Having exhausted the more obvious resources,Meisenheimer is always looking for ways to expand the archive, stopping to copy down names from war memorials wherever he finds them in Madison,
