(Special)--■ Funeral services for Ur DavM Clinton Gillespie were held Sunday c.t the residence of his late brother. The services were conducted by the Rev.J. T. Wilson, pastor of Oakhill Pres* hyterisn church and a relative of the deceased. Burial followed In Maplewood cemetery.Dr. Gillespie was born near the present town of Richland* on December 18. 1878, eon of George William Gillespie and Barbara Emmons Gillespie, removing to Tasewell withhie parents at the age of ten years, where he lived the normal happy lifeof the average boy during which he was dubbed Jake'* by his associates. a name which stuck with him through his rise to fame. His education begun at Tasewell college. In the fall of ’9ft he matriculated at University of Virginia, where he earned a degree of bachelor of arts, taught In Tasewell college during the term of 1900*1991, studied at Johns Hopkins university and following a period of post graduatework at University of Virginia embarked In the spring of 1903 for Germany where he entered Gottingen university. Gottingen, where he wasawarded a Ph. D. on a major In mathematics.
