'%3fe . ? /«a ^ ' / • vCarl Heglund. crippled victim of an i unfortunate automobile accident twoyear* ago, was freed of charges offailing to support his wife yesterday in Justice of the Peace Buckley’s court when deputies frbm the office of County Attorney T. E. Downey sawhim hobble into court on crutches to answer to the charge. He has been a cripple for two years and unable to work, the prosecutors stated.On May 13, 1923. two machines collided during the night near the home j of Mr. and Mrs. Heglund, 3311 Mon- ! roe street. Heglund, thinking personsmay have been injured, rose from his j bed and went out to give assistance. While he and others were standing In the road beside the wrecked cars another automobile bore down upon them with a roar and Heglund, being first in its path, was mowed down and j a wrist was broken and both legs so terribly crushed that amputation fora long time was thought necessary.Others were injured in the mishap but Heglund. who was seeking to aid others, suffered most and one leg is still In a cast. About 10 days after the mishap Thomas Sennett, alleged driver of the car. was charged in district court by County Attorney Glbrge Bourquln with assault in the seconddegree. Records show that an attorney for the defense, filed a demurrer a few days later, but the case was never brought to trial.
