Wednesday to require all new officers to live within the city limits,Theodore McNeal, board president, said the decision to revise the department’s regulations was made in response to the desire of an overwhelming majority of the city’s residents.The residency requirement will not compel present police officers to live in the city, McNeal said, but will be a condition of employment for recruits to the force.Under the regulation, which is effective immediately, officers now hired by the city will be given 90 days from the date of employment to move within the city limits.The residency requirement had been researched, McNeal said, and is fully within the law.
