It will beeiI0dirnBr.* ..... done with county labor and in all over 20,000 cubic yards of ground are to be moved to provide a straight cut for the highway from the end of the Y” at the western extension of Highways 10* 141 right into the village of Rapids.The first work, now being undertaken, is the removal of the farm buildings of Theodore Flahr, which lie directly In the path of the new highway. At present the road veers to the west and curves down to.the lower levels around a curve which fringes a high bank and has long been regarded as dangerous. The count yacqulred the needed right or way and must also move the farm home, barns, outbuildings, and windmill of Mr. Plahr to the new location, east of the new highway route, A crew of men Is now engaged on this work.Hlghwiv 42 Through Hera Highway 119 ipas formerly Highway 42, but the latter route now branches off at Brown ■ Corners and is routed into this city and thence northward to Two Rivers and Sturgeon Bay. That part of the old 42. between Brown’s Corners and the Junction of the route with Highways 10-141,. the Waldo avenue super highway to Green Bay is now designated on state highway maps as Highway 119. The removal of tne Rabenhorst hill and straightening of the highway at that point Is one of the first improvements planned on this new f°ute. _There are a number of bad turns on the 119 route between Rapids and Brown’s Corners and before any paving plans can be considered for this stretch of highway it will be necessary to provide relocation projects and later straightening of the highway... Start-Work, ScarifyingThe highway commissionerstated today that his forces were be ginning this week on the scarifying of dirt state and county trunk highways in'the county; This was not possible up to the present time on account of the large number of bad sink holes, at the bottom of which was black muck. The spell of dry weather and high winds has served to dry up the bad spots considerably and it is now possible to put graaers and scrapers at work..It is expected that the dirt highways of the. county will be in good shape within the next couple of wedks.
