Greens fees hikedue here in MayCome May, area golfers will have to dig a little deeper into their pockets if they plan to tee off at Schiffer-decker Municipal Golf Course.Joplin voters in November approved a proposal to increase tne cost of greens fees and season passes at the course an average of 66 percent. Voter endorsement of the plan hardly was overwhelming, but the measure passed with 5,759 votes in favor and 5,680 opposed. The City Council called for a vote on the increases based on a proposal advanced by the Joplin Park Board. Board members recommended the hike after some council members were critical of budget subsidies received by the course, contending the operation should “pay its own way.”Park board members, in proposing the fee increase, urged that its imposition be delayed until May and also recommended the council usesome of the revenues from the increase to begin an irrigation program at the course.Panel members argued that at least some of the revenues should be used to benefit golfers paying the higher fees, though they said the increase brought Joplin fees in line with those charged at other municipal courses.Council members in January listened to the pitch from Gary Burton, park board chairman, but decided to postpone further consideration of the plan for a year to determine how much revenue will be generated by the fee increase.« • it % * • * •• • • • * * •'•'I • t « • » » • • 1 % * jVVWVS iVAl.'liil^x;Xv:; v.;-:::y.:.y .-•x-xvimMWMon Wed Fri. 10a m., 11:15a m., 12 15p m.Tues.-Thurs. 5:30 to 6:30 p.m. Certified Instructor, Colleen HaydenWHOLISTIC FITNESS CENTER 1050 MAIN • JOPLIN • 702-6173
