Hammond, of this 1Gcity, asks separation as to hod and\oard from a woman named AnnieGrace Power, of Minneapolis, Minn., 1 ^whom he married in that citv. They agreedto separate, and defendant took awayall tlie furniture, etc., and sold it,although the plaintiff was paying herboard at the time, and then persisted in, . . . . /. , 1 i 1 lt 1persecuting him, visiting him againsttheir agreement, abusing him in the presence of strangers, and calling him a drunkard and an opium eater, and destroying all chances of success in his practice both in Minnea-I polis and Montreal, to which city she , followed him. Plaintiff then took ref- ,en^ uge in his mother’s house in this city, where defendant followed him and behaved in such a rough and unbearable !1 tiirrmanner that lie was obliged to have j his meals in his own room for fear of i ^)lCC: m . # I serescandal, foul-dealing or danger to his 1 life. On the Gth of .July she beat him brutally, and on the loth of September she inilicted a wound on his head, which left plaintiff unable to show himself for many davs. At the same timev *•she complained that this would not be the last treatment of the kind he wouldreceive from her. Since then plaintiff hasnot resided with her, but she has continued to harass and waylay him and•* +threaten his life. The wifo maintains that she is sincerely and devotedly at-•* totaclied to her husband and bo to her, but that the hatred now shown to her in tho present action has been inspired by his mother and two sisters, who have taken advantage of his passion for strong liquors and opium and of his enfeebled and dejected mind, to poison his feeling towards defendant, to slander her, and throw suspicion on her sincerity and fidelity to him. That less than two months after their marriage plain tiff began to abandon himself to strong drink and opium as he had done before his marriage, although not then known to defendant that he degraded himself by tlie abuse of liquor and morphine, under which ho lost all consciousness.
