Artist Geo. Harvey Has the World’s lairPicture Practically Completed.The picture of Burlington tor the World’s fair is practically completed, and Mr. George Harvey, the artist, is engaged in putting on the finishing touches. In addition to this picture being awork of art in which all Iowa can take pride, it will be the best advertisement for the city of Burlington ever conceived and carried out. The old chestnut view of the town taken from the other side, showing a man sitting on the Illinois shore below the bridge and letting his feet hang over, and a town in the distance, may now be discarded. Mr. Harvey picked the only place where a view at the town as it is can properly bo hadand ail who see the picture will agree to it. Mr. Harvey’s point of view whs the top of the big bluff immediately at the Iowa end of the bridge, and he has sue ceeded, despite unfavorable weather andlimited time, in placing the town, as seenfrom this point, on canvas in a perfect manner. The artist has so arranged the work that the spectator, looking at the picture from the front, imagines himself upon a high eminence and spread out below and in front of him isthe panorama, typifying not only the beautiful natural site of Burlington, but her growing factories,her business blocks, her railroads andher bustling streets. To the right ofthe picture appears the mighty Mi sissippi, describing a broad curve in front of the city. The green islands abovethe town are ehowm, and O’Connellslough stretches away and is lost in the blue haze of the hills to the northward. Along the levee and on the bosom of the river a number of steam craft and sail boats and smaller craft are seen, snowing the business and social advantages of the big liver. Right at the feet of tte spectator is the big saw mill and lumber yard of the Burlington Lumber company. Also the roundhouse, the Electric read power house, ihe big elevator and the Union depot. The extensive railroad yards, with the freight care and engines, will be prominent in the fore ground.The business part of the city is presented in the best manner. Every public building and piace of interest isshown.
