DESERTED HIS WIFE.Henry F. Armentrout Disappears With Another Woman, Leaving Wife and Children at i*t. Republic. •Monday's Staunton Post.Mr. A. J. Collier, who resides near Port Republic, wufi iu the city today on the trail of his fugitive son-in-law, Henry F. Armen-trout, who, he charges, deserted his wile, nee Miss Dora Collier, last Wednesday and left for parts unknown in company with a pretty young woman named Painter who lived near Pleasant Talley.In an interview with a Post reporter Mr. Collier gave the following account of the desertion and elopement Hia daughter and Armentrout were married about eight years ago, and now have two children, one nearly seven years old, the other a babe of six months. After marriage they lived at Port Republic, and later removed to Basic City. Less than a year ago they returned to their original (the wife’s parental) home at Port Republic. Armentrout wag a farmer, and work being very scarce, he went to Mount Crawford to work for Dr. Painter about six months ago, leaving his wife and children at Mr. Collier’s home. The husband went home to Port Republic almost every Saturday and spent Sunday with his wife and children. His last visit home was March 3rd, Sunday before last, on which occasion he was, apparently, the same affectionate husband he had always been. He was preparing to move his family to Mount Crawford, so Armentrout stated,Nothing was thought of the husband’s failure to visit home yesterday until information reached Mr. Collier, our informant, that hia son-in-law had disappeared with another young woman. Ho began investio gation and discovered that Armentrout had walked lrorn Mt. Crawford te Pleasant Talley, there met Miss Painter (a daughter of Mr. Joshua Painter), boarded the early south-bound Valley train Thursday morning with her, purchased tickets to Staunton ior self and companion, had her trunk checked, and came to Staunton. Mr. CoK lier traced them to this city, found the restaurant where the pair breakfasted and where Armentrout declared his companion was his wife. After this the father-in-law had no trace of the fugitive, but is of opinion that they boarded a west bound Chesapeake and Ohio train for Illinois or some adjoining Western State.Mr. Collier states that Armentrout and his wife had always lived happily together as far as he knew, and he was aware of no justification for his desertion of her. The man, be says, had always been a good husband, and was apparently happy. Since the husband’s disappearance under such circumstances, the deserted wife had been unable to take food and slept very little.Armentrout has no beard save a small dark mustache, is about thirty-five years old, six feet iu stature and weighs about 155 or1G0 pounds.The parents of Miss Painter had rented a
