8AM Y0UH8 FACES THE MUSIC*• *8» s . • * ••■ ■■■ ■ (After Eighteen Hears of Wrangling the lt;Jary Disagrees. 1The trial of Samuel Young, on the 1 charge of forgery, came up in the 1 White county circuit court last Thurs- ] day morning, and created more general interest than any trial that has been docketed up there in a longtime. 1 Judge Winfield occupied the bench.The facts in the case are familiar to the readers of the Journal. Young was arraigned on an indictment re- 1 turned by the grand jury, charging 1 him with forging the name of “Will 1 Pearson” to a note for §1.000, and pre- 1senting the same at the bank at Mon-ticello. Mr. Pearson being placed upon the stand, testified that he did , not sign his name to the note, or i give any one else authority to sign it. ,James Spencer testified that he was 1 in the employ of Young while he was , running the Journal, and that Young J confessed the forgery to him the day the matter was made public at Monti- ! cello and Delphi, and told him that ho ' thought he could fix the matter up before it got out. Spencer also testified , as to Young’s bad moral character, accusing him of gambling, drinking and general immorality.-\r T/ lr\ I .
