MAHAFFEY - The Clearfield County Coroner’s office has ruled the deaths of David Wayne Strong, 24, and his son, David Wayne Strong Jr., 3, as homicide and suicide, according to coroner Joel Heath.Autopsies were performed yesterday in Allegheny County.Mr. Strong died of a single shotgun wound to the chest while his son died of two shotgun wounds to the chest. The weapon is thought to be a 410 shotgun, Mr. Heath said.The bodies were discovered by family members Tuesday at 4:30 p.m. in their home located in Burnside Township, Mahaffey R.R. 2 along the south side of SR 3001, Ridge Road, approximately one-tenth of a mile west of SR3023.The scene was investigated by Mr. Heath and Clearfield County Deputy Coroner John M. Bakaysa as well as the Pennsylvania State Police. The two were pronounced dead by Mr. Bakaysa at the scene at 5:20 p.m.Services for David W. Strong Jr., 3, will be held at 11 a.m. Friday at the T.G. McCracken Funeral Home in Mahaffey, with the Rev. Robert Cook officiating.Interment will be in the Crown Crest Memorial Park Cemetery in Hyde.Friends will be received at the funeral home on Friday from 8 a.m. until the services.Born May 1,1991, in the Clearfield Hospital, he was the son of Susan M. Shaw and the late David W. Strong.He is also survived by his maternal grandparents, Leland and Crystal (Butler) Shaw of Curwensville; paternal grandfather, James Strong; paternal grandmother, Barbara A. (Ross) Geer; paternal step- grandfather, Robert Geer of Mahaffey; great- grandmother, Lois Butler of Clearfield; a number of aunts and uncles; and a number of cousins.
