Ex-Mayor Again Rouses Naperville Gossips, Who Knew Naught of Decree to Wife.Gossips of Naperville are revelling in the choicest bit of gossip they have had since Peter E. Kroehler, wealthy lounge manufacturer and then Mayor of that suburb, resigned at the public’s request five years ago rather than renounce as his affinity Miss Grace Hubert, his pretty stenographer. The wagging tongues began working overtime again yesterday when it was learned that the ex-Mayor had married Miss Hubert the day before in Chicago. As a matter of fact, it was not generally known in Naperville that Kroehler was freed from his first wife, the woman who stood loyally by him during the onslaught from indignant citizens after he admitted his love for the stenographer.. Records of Du Page County showed that Mrs. Kroehler obtained a divorce March 5, 1910, two months after he quit the executive office, and that she received as settlement $250,000 and their $75,000 home in that city.License records here show that he gave his age as forty-three and hers at twenty-seven. He gave his address as that of the Chicago Automobile Club, of which he is‘a member. It’s an outrage,” declared Mrs. Elizabeth Stevens, the ex-Mayor’s former mother-in-law, who now is in charge of the Kroehler home at Naperville. “My daughter and I have been waiting for him to carry out his promise that he would give up that girl and remarry my daughter. Ever since the divorce, five years ago, he has repeatedly assured us that he would return to us. And now he has seen fit to marry the girl ,who broke up his home and revive the old scandal.”While the Aldermen were considering the necessary steps to obtain a less romantic chief executive, the Rev. John Divan, pastor of the Grace Evangelical Church, where the Mayor attended, tried to persuade him to drop the affinity. It was then that Kroehler told his pastor he was infatuated with the girl and would always provide for her.Kroehler is president of a lounge manufacturing concern which bears his name. He has offices at 1319 Michigan a
