JUDGE BENNETT GRANTS ELLA S. VAN I I VALEN A DIVORCE THIS MORNING. IThe divorce case of Ella S. Van Valen |vs. Tbaddene Van Valen, was broughtbefore Jndge Bennett this morning. The Iground of the ccmplainant was cruel and I inhuman treatment. The testimony I showed that Mrs. Van Valen bad frequently received inhuman treatment at I the hards of her husband. That he had struck his wife] in a manner to cause I much bodily pain, had pinched and bit- I*en her until her aims were black and Iblue, pulled her out of bed when sick, I and failed to decently sup-1 port her either in the I way of provisions or clothing. Once I when she was dangerously {sick and the I doctor ordered a mustard plaster applied, I the defendant made an application of I onions. The doctor was obliged to I prepare the mustard plestcr himself. I The defendant received a salary of ยง50per month besides being engeged in I other business. The divorce was grant-1ed. I
