Ancient History.The Cole? House was built during : and 1870 by the late A. P. Cone.' ihe firs: landlord being A. B. Graves. . About 1873 B. B. Holiday purchased the property, which within a year or two passed into the possession of Joel Park hurst. of Klklanc and the name of the hotel was changed to . the Pafrkhurst House. From 1875 to 1883 Thomas Veazie was the iand-• lord. He tv a? followed by Charles Hussey and C. C. McClelland, each remaining- about a year. In Febru-1 ary. tSFF. the Cole? House, corner t-1 OuPt-r and Main streets, was tie* strayed by fire, James S. Coles being the landlord at the time. He immediately leased the Parkhurst House and ran it until November. 1803, when hi? brother TV. Pv. Cote? succeeded him and purchased :t in July. 181;6. The property was at that time improved and fitted up with all the mortem convenience? at an expense of about SI0,000. In March. the hotel was destroyed by fire entailing a $23,000 loss, with SI0.000 insurance. Following reconstruction Mr. Coles continued to conduct the hotel until his death. Later the hotel was opened with Clark B.
