Rev. Everett BlackGraveside rites for the Eev. Everett P. Black of Clearwater, Kans., a former Algona man, will be held in Algona at Riverview Cemetery at 3 p.m. tomorrow (Sunday, July 26), The Rev. Ron Johnson, pastor of the First Baptist Church, will officiate and theGeilenfeld-Murphy-Schaaf Funeral Service is in charge of the arrangements.Visitation at the funeral chapel will be from 12 noon Sunday until 2:30.Everett P. Black, son of Paul Hugh and Elizabeth Jeanette Urch Black, was bom at Algona July 16, 1921. He graduated from Algona High School in 1938, then attended Wheaton College at Wheaton, III. for 2 1/2 years. Everett entered the military service during World War II and served in the Asiatic Pacific Theater 3 1/2 years.He returned to Wheaton College where he graduated, then attended Fuller Theological Seminary at Pasadena, Calif. Everett received his Master of Divinity degree in 1950.Everett Black was married to Betty Geering at Algona Sept. 2, 1949.The first church Rev. Black served was the First Baptist Church at Clearwater, Kans. After 6 1/2 years there, he and his family moved in 1959 to serve the Baptist Church at Spencer. They left Kansas in 1966 for Glen Ellyn, 111.where he pastored at the Glen Ellyn Bible Church 16 years. Rev, Black returned to First Baptist Church at Clearwater in January of1982.Rev. Black died Tuesday, July 21, (1987) in St. Joseph's Medical Center at Wichita, Kansas. He had been ill for several weeks Mid no cause of death was given.Funeral service for him was held at 3 p.m. Friday in the Clearwater Baptist Church with the Rev. Darrell Heidner and the Rev. Harry Betts officiating.Rev. Black is survived by hiswife, Betty and 5 children; Gerald, North Hollywood, Calif.; Mary Lau, St. Paul, Minn.; Paula Swanson, Clearwater, Kans.; Billie Jean Ellingsen, Elkhom, Wis. and Janelle Black, Wheaton, 01. There are 3 grandchildren. His mother-in-law, Amy Gearing, resides at the Good Samaritan Center, Algona.Also surviving are 2 brothers and a sister; Robert E. Black, Algona; Ruth E. Black, Rockford, 111. and Evelyn I. Yeaton, Oak Park, 111.The Rev. Everett Black was ft member of Clearwater Baptist Church, the Clearwater Ministerial Assoc,, Roger Williams Assoc., V.F.W. and the American Legion. Memorials may be given to the Clearwater First Baptist Church Building Fund, Clearwater, Kans.
