James Gahn Sentenced to Three Days* Imprisonment by Judge' Leathers — All in a Divorce Case.On the charge of contempt of court, James Gahn was to-day sentenced tothree days' imprisonment In the countyjail, by Judge Leathers, of Superior Court. Recently Gahn’s wife consulted E. St. G. Rogers, an attorney, and instituted pro-ceedings for divorce. She paid 15 as retainer, with the understanding that It was to be followed in a few days by an equal amount. The remainder of the HO fee was then to be requested in an affidavit for allowance when the case was called for trial. But in a few days she notified the lawyer that there had been a reconciliation, and requested that her cause be dismissed. Rogers refused, unless the $5 was forthcoming. He complained to the court, and Judge Leathers ordered Gahn to pay $10. When the writ was served, the deputy sheriff says, Gahn declared that he would never pay; that he would like to see a court powerful enough to make him. He repeated this to Rogers. Then he was cited, and commanded to appear in court yesterday. This order, too, was disobeyed, though, it was said, through ignorance.: When Gahn took the witness stand today, Judge Leathers decided now was the time to make an example in such cases. The prisoner first offered to pay the attorney $5; then said he would consider it worth $10 to get out of the trouble, but his offers to compromise were of no avail. He had desired to see a tribunal powerful enough to separate him from his money, and now he saw, Judge Leathers said. So the prisoner was led on over to the jll.
