Bingaman rushed from the building and notified the police. A large crowd quickly appeared but almost as quickly disappeared, for the stench was something awful. The body had swollen to nearly twice its natural size and was covered with maggots. The corpse was carried to the Chase morgue where it was viewed by Acting Coroner Dr. J. V. Nelson, who, after getting one whiff of the fearful odor, decided that a post ndortem was not necessary. The body Droved to be that of Frank Morrie, better known as “Polack Frank,” a man about 50years of age who, according to the police had lived in this city during the past twenty years. He slept in any vacant building or other convenient place, and did odd jobs. It is said that when he was out of funds he did not hesitate to eat from garbage cans. No one seems to know how long the dead body had been in the vacant building before being discovered, but Patrolman Benjamin Deane says that he saw Morrie in the alley between Broadway and North street Sunday morning, and that he went to Fifth street, crossed over and went to the deserted building.Bingaman states that he talked with Morrie Sunday night and the man complained of being ill.The decomposed body was immediately placed in a box and hustled tothe cemetery, where it was buried inpotter’s field.
