K17 No Longer The , Route to McPhersonThe full page color street guide map of Hutchinson published in Sunday’s News which was by courtesy of First National Bank gave readers an excellent picture of newer and lesser known streets, but it had one blooper.A reader at McPherson was quick to point it out.In showing state and federal highway routes into the city the drawing was slightly out of date.It listed K17 as the highway to Medora and McPherson.That was the case a few years ago, but isn’t anymore. This diagonal route now is an extension of K61.The K17 designation was dropped when the K61 straight shot was opened. On newer maps K17 is a short highway connecting link between the K61 junction in South Hutchinson and the US54 junction at Midway in Kingman County,End of the day’s lesson in mapreading.
