Elmore Hardy Shot Down Wife as She Greeted Him With a Smile. TERRIBLE TRAGEDY IN MARION Bequel of Marriage of Dancing Master to Daughter of Prominent Business * Man—Life Did Not Run Smooth and They Had Parted, Marion, Mich. Jan. 24—With a smile on her face and their two young children clinging playfully to her skirts, Mrs. Mary Hardy was fatally shot by her husband, Elmer B. Hardy, in the home of her father Monday af ternoon. Hardy emptied the contents of a 82 caliber revolver at his wife, but only two shots took effect. One of these struck her just above the heart and the other penetrated her right lung. Her death is momentarily expected. ‘The tragedy to the sequel of the ro mantic marriage of Hardy, a well- known dancing master, to Miss Mary Hall, the daughter of William M. Hall, leading business man of this place, , Which took place sll years ago. Returns to Her Father: After living here a short time the pair moved to Washington state, where Hardy secured a railroad posi tion. Life was not rosy for them, however, and after the birth of two children Mrs. Hardy found her way last summer back to the home of her father, Hardy appeared on the scene last week, but made no effort to see his wife in Monday noon, when he knocked at the door of the home of his wife's father. He was admitted and stepping into the sitting room asked to see his wife, vice Five Times, Mrs. Hardy came into the room with her two life children clinging to her skirts. With a smile she stepped up to greet her husband. As she did , Hardy pulled his re volver from his pocket and fired point Drank five times at the woman. She di d not fall until the last shot had been fired, when she sank unconscious to the Moor. The two children ran screaming from the room and Hardy coolly put the revolver back in his pocket and walked out of the house. Physiciang who word summoned pronounced Mrs. Hardy's case hopeless. Handy was placed under arrest as soon as he ar rived downtown and is now confined in the county fall.
