Riddle, head of the meat cutter*’ local union No, 303 and the Retail Clerks’ local No. 322, was re-elected president of the Joplin Central Trades and Labor Assembly at the annua! election of officers tilt* week.L. E. Longstreet, representative of the painters local, was re-elected vice president, and Russell B. Pitnco of the bakers union was re-elected recording secretaary for the foufth time. Lucille Valle wae je-eleeted Mcretary-treasure .Trustees chosen are A. W. West-erhouse of the carpenters union, Bill Norberg of the moulders union, L. M, Foster of the bus drivers local, and William Norberg of the cerpenters.Riddle, who has been in the labor movement heie eight years, served as vice president in 1043 and as president in 1944, 1945 and 1948.Program Shaped.Declaring that 1649 will be an outstanding year in the labor movement in the Tri-State district. Riddle said the unions are mapping a broad program of activities for the year and that they will be active in public, political and legislative affairs. He also asserted that the unions are anticipating building a strong political organization and preparing for the 1950 elections—city, county, state and nation,”At the annual assembly meeting, Riddle announced, the trades unions adopted a resolution to seek defeat in 1950 of former Govjtfnor Phil M. Donnelly, if he run“ for United States senator, because of Donnelly's attitude toward labor.The assembly also adopted a resolution favoring enactment of a state minimum wage law, and to expand social security and compensation laws and assist old-age pensioners.Riddle, who recently returned from the retail clerk*' International conference in Chicago, said he is drawing plans to organize the department stores in Joplin If and vicinity in the near future. The present retail clerks’ union was organized eight years ago.Riddle asserted that there are 33 affiliated locals with the Joplin Central Trades Assembly in Joplin.
