Often four or five years later they come back and say they wish so much they had listened. They have found fewer jobs and lower pay because of! lack of education.”James McMath, principal of Odessa High School, reported 32 girls dropped out of high school last yearget married, or because they were already married. There were no boys giving marriage as a reason for dropping out of school, although it may have been. However, many boys stop school in the summer to go to work to support wives, and then never come back.”Gail Smith, principal of Ector High School, said, “In the brief time Ector has been open we have had very few students drop out because of marriage. Most of them continue in school. There seems to be little comment or concern among other students, although one coukl say that marriage is contagious. Usually when one couple marries, several of their friends follow suit”Smith stated, “I definitely feel though that young marriage is not good, and I am opposed to students marrying. We counsel students to wait until school, even college is over before marrying.”Supt Kirk said, “X advise strongly that students postpone marriage until alter graduation from high school. But again there always are exceptional cases.”There actually is nothing the schools can do to prevent married students entering or continuing school. A Texas judge in a test case ruled that marriage was nota cause to drop a student, when one school system became alarmed it the number of married students.Odessa high schools, however, have put a few blocks in the path of married bliss. Center of the conflict was the fact that plane owners had recommended giving the contract back to Glen Flournoy, although he was the lowest of four bidders.Second delay of the week came Tuesday when Commissioner Norman Maney’s attempt to award the contract to Harry Bennett died when no one would second Maney’s motion. At that time, the commissioners asked for a written opinion on the four bids from County Attorney C. V. Milbum, although Milbum told them that all the bids were legal and the court could accept any one or throw out all four and negotiate a contract on their own.Milburn Wednesday returned a written opinion—containing, in essence, the same thing he had told the court orally. The court did not meet again during the remainder of the week.Commissioner Ted Roby indicated Friday that he “hoped” the court would take up the airport contract at its Monday meeting— wbich may be held at 10 a.m. or in the afternoon.Roby said the time of the meeting depended on whether Com-
