fJUDGE ASSAILSGROWN POINTSMARRIAGE MILL‘End It, Even If an Amendment Is Necessary,’Cries DavidCHICAGO, HI, Jan. 14.—In heated language from the bench, Superior Judge B. David, yesterday denounced the Crown Point marriage mill and proposed, if necessary, an amendment to the United States Constitution to abolish It.His opinions were voiced when William Pluto, 18, of 7602 Rhodes avenue, asked an annulment of his Crown Point marriage last May 16 to Amanda Lipinski, 2837 E. Seventy-sixth place. They lived together but one day.“As long as the clerk gets his fee,” cried Judge David, “they’ll marry babies m Crown Point. They did the same thing in Waukegan until I stopped it. There’s only one thing I can see to stop it. That’s to amend the Constitution to make marriage laws the same in all states.“It’s too bad that our laws are not the same as those in Prance, where a man does not reach the age of discretion until 25 and a woman until 21. This marriage, despite the tender age of these two children, is valid in Indiana—but I’ll annul it!” Pluto was 17 when, as an usher in the Joy theater, South Chicago, he met Miss Lipmski, the cashier, then 16. She said he pleaded with her for three weeks to marry him and that she agreed when her uncle, John Benson of 3018 E. Seventy-ninth place, agreed to lend Pluto the money for the license. The youngsters drove to Crown Point with Benson and his wife, Valentine. The gir! said:“I was against the annulment at first, but he's said so many bad things about me since that I*m for it now.”When Pluto told a different stody, claiming that there was no thought of marriage when the auto ride started, Judge David demanded: “What is this, a frameup? I ought to jail somebody.”Mrs. Benson said that Pluto told the license clerk that he was 22 and her niece gave her age as 18.»«3RAR ASS’N
