Unemployment Mils. WASHINGTON (DPI) —Unemployment hit ■ a nl no-year high of 6 per cent of the American work force Jrt December despite the end of. the General Motors strike that the administration blamed for many recent ’ economic troubles.But the Western; White House said that President Nixon was guiding the country through tKe least painless transition from a wartime to peacetime economy in *his century —and toward less inflation and more jobs. •The Labor Department's report Friday that the jobless rate went up from • 5J to .
