Bishop Maes DeniesLkxington, Ky., Jan. 7.—Bishop Maes, of the Covington diocese, has filed his answer to the suit of the heirs of Vfrs. Mary Howard Preston for the recovery of a farm in Fayette county, deeded by Mrs. Preston to the bishop. The defendant, individually and as a bishop, denies that Mrs. Preston, as alleged in the petition, dud without leaving a last will and testament. In regard to the property known as How ard Grove, he denies that the plaintiffs ever had any acquired title to it, as it was owned entirely by Mary Howard Preston, bought and paid for by her for the sum of $14,000. He denies that he induced Mrs. Preston in any way to make over the deed to him or the church, and says that it was done ry her voluntarily. The deed, he further claims, was written by her at torney and executed by her after advice by her counsel and after mature consideration.—Courier-Journl.
