Aldi will build grocery store at Alton brickyardwill build a big grocery market on the site of the old Alton brickyard, off the Bel tline Parkway.The store will open about Sept. 1 to offer customers “low prices on quality food,” said J Leonard Purvis, general manager of theSt. Louis Division of Aldi. Inc.“We’ve been looking for property on the beltline for years,” Purvis said “This is a good location. It’s a real growth area forAlton.”C. Juengel Construction Co. of St. Louis will start construction of the building inMarch at 4415 W. Center Drive, across from Duff’s Restaurant.The cash and carry food store will be be owned and operated by Aldi, Inc. on approximately 12,000 square feet of floor space, Purvis said.The Aldi store in East Alton will remain inbusiness when the new store opens, he said.
