Santa surely doesn’t bring them. Teachers were once all college students who were interested in teaching future generations of students.Recently five student teachers completed teaching assignments at Princeton Senior High School. They include Mrs. Frances Federici and Dawn-Marie Victoria Ellis in English: Ms. Sharon Williams, business communications: Mr. Greg Brown, math: and Mr. Keith Anderson, physical education.In the student teaching process, future teachersspend the llrst few weeks of the student teaching semester in regular college classes, which help prepare them for the school experience. These classes teach student teachers to make lesson plans and give them a forum to examine concerns and fears they may have about teaching.Mrs. Federici said student teaching at Princeton Senior High School “has been a very positive experience for me. I have really enjoyed my students and my classes.”Mrs. Ellis agreed: It has been wonderful: most of the students really appreciate my help.”Gaining confidence from this encouraging preview of what their own classrooms will be like, Mrs. Federici said, 'Tve seen more of thegood aspects of teaching and less of the bad.”Mr. Anderson looked at it another way. You leam how to build a relationship with students, and to deal with many different attitudes, personalities and instructional strategies.Each student will be saddened as some of the student teachers finish their assignments at PSHS. As the student teachers move into their teaching careers some hope to be teaching in Mercer or other nearby counties soon.And Some students may Just look into a classroomnearby one day soon andfind one of these studentseducators a full-fledgedteacher.
