nuey sue sum:“The Women’s Friendly institute was organized in dune, and legally incorporated in the city of Titusville, state of Pennsylvania, July 5,1001. its object is to promote the education and employment of women fur domestic service. Hundreds of colored girls in the north are dependent upon the domestic field as a meansof making a livelihood, and at present the demand for our girls in thisfield is greater than the supply, and three-fourths of these girls who must resort to this work as a means ofmaking an honest livlihood, are incompetent to meet the requirements of the modern methods of housekeeping. The object of tlie school is to promote the education and employment of women, preparing them for practical usefulness by giving each one that enters and remains a sufficient time some useful trade in connection with a thorough English education. therein English will be given to enable each girl to become self-supporting, The aim is to impart a knowledge of the special subject matter of domestic science anti art, toineulate a love of knowledge, to trainintelligently.
