Whom he names as co-respondent cannot be ascertained, nor the circumstances on which he bases his suit.In the Supreme Court yesterday Justice Fitzgerald directed that the testimony should be heard by a referee, and he appointed tothat position Vernon M. Davis, formerly anassistant district attorney. The counsel onboth sides, Dittenhoeier, Gerber James forMr. Ehret, Howe Hummel for the wife,agreed to this. The only papers filed withthe court were the lawyers’ consents and theorder of reference, and it was not statedwhether the suit was for divorce or separation.Mr. Ehret and Miss Dare were married by a police magistrate in Chicago, on August 11, 1S98. But it was not until six weeks later that the announcement was made. The young man had been attentive to the actress for many months, and it was said his father had threatened to disinherit him should he make her his wife.LOST A BIG INCOME.It was said at the time that Ehret’s marriage cost him an income of $40,000 a year— the salary' he got for his labors in his father's brewery. But still there was no fear he would starve, as be had an income of nearly $30,000 a year in his own right. When he and his wife came East they went to live in a handsome home in Elmhurst, L.
