gHarding Haiis Teton ProjectWASHINGTON {AP) — House approval of a bill authorizing the '$52 million Lower Teton Project has been hailed by Rep, Ralph Harding, D-Idaho, as the most significant .action l)y Congress this ycur affecting Idaho.The Senate had passed a bill authorizing the project, hut the House Interior Comm!tree bill 'differed in minor details from (he Senate hill. The House Monday amended the Senate bill and returned It for final congressional action.Harding said he hoped the Senate will agree to the House amendments. If not, he said, a conference committee would be required to iron out difficulties.The House bill calls for construction of the Fremont Dam on the lower.Teton River and a 22,000 kilowatt capacity power plant that would help repay costs of the dam.Power generated at the dam would go into the Bonneville Power Administration system in southern Idaho.The 310-foot long earth - fill dam would form a reservoir with a capacity of 315,000' acre feet of water.Water from the dam would provide supplemental irrigation for 112,400 acres under irrigation in Henry's Fork Valley, and 2,00C acres in the Rexburg bench area.The final stage would include construction of a pump canal and pump system to carry water to 37,000 acres of presently dry land on the Rexburg bench.
