Greens F ees Increase Proposed to CouncilA 25 per cent increase in the greens fees at Schif-ferdecker Municipal Golf Course was proposed by City Manager Robert Met-zinger to the City Council Monday as part of his pre-Uminary report on the 1976 city budget.*Metzinger said the golf course is being subsidized by $20,000 this year and would require $30,000 in 1976 even with the proposed increase in greens fees. His proposal would hike the daily greens fee from $1.50 to $1.90 and from $2 to $2.50 on weekends and holidays.Councilman Jan Tupper urged consideration, of a lower fee for persons over 65 who use the golf course. Metzinger will come upwith a recommendation in his preliminary budget for the council.Councilman Richard Craig questioned the increase and the argumentabout subsidizing of thegolf course stating, “The city is in the subsidizing business. We subsidize the swimming pools, parks, tennis courts and others, so why the issue of subsidizing the golf course?” Councilman Joe Tichotasaid he would rather leave the fees as they are; but he garnered no support from other council members, toward that aim and apparently the city manager will recommend in his preliminary budget that the greens fees be increased 25 per cent probably starting Jan. 1, 1976, and that includes the annual fee.The Joplin Globe contacted some members of the City Park Board and they were surprised at Met* zinger’s recommendation stating they had not been consulted on the proposed increase.
